Itinerary

Day 1

Depart your hometown for the overnight flight to Marrakesh, Morocco.

Day 2

Arrive to Marrakech International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
Welcome dinner at a nearby restaurant. (D)

Overnight at the Riad Palais Sebban

Day 3

After breakfast and a gentle yoga class, you will meet the city guide to begin exploring Marrakech, the red city. The walking tour includes the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace and Dar Si Said Museum. You will also walk in the Medina’s alleyways to immerse yourself in the vibrant souks, marketplaces that display the traditional Moroccan handicraft. You will be amazed with the skills of the artisans as well as the number of items piled in a tiny space. The visit ends at the famous Jamma El Fna square.

The afternoon is free for your own exploration or, if interested, we are planning a short visit to a center just outside the city that offers temporary lodging to women and children who are victims of violence.  This includes abused wives but also single moms, who are rejected by their partners and families. Having children out of wedlock is considered a crime in Morocco and without the necessary legal support, moms can be incarcerated and children are unable to get an identity that allows them to have access to a normal life, like being in school.  They also take care of pregnant refugees, migrant women. Morocco is a transit to many sub Saharan citizens trying to get to Europe for a better life.  During our visit we will do a henna tatooo ceremony with the women.  Local muscisions will be part of the ceremony followed by learning some Moroccan dance steps.

Overnight at the Riad Palais Sebban  (B/L/-)

Day 4

Leave the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and head south along the Haouze plain to the majesty of the High Atlas Mountains. An hour and a half transfer takes you to the village of Amsakrou in the remote Imnanen Valley. A steady uphill hike from the valley to a mountain pass, approximately 6500 feet, will then take you down to the village of Aguersioual where you will enjoy a picnic lunch. After a rest in the shade, follow the valley to Imlil, the starting point for the Toubkal expeditions. Approximately 1.5 hour drive / 4.5 mile walk (B/L/D)
Overnight at Kasbah Du Toubkal

Day 5

After a morning yoga class, you will hike up the valley to the holy site of Sidi Chamharouch. Following the mule path along the mountain stream, you pass the village of Aremd built on a glacier moraine. The scenery becomes more alpine as you progress towards the junction of two valleys and where the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch is located. Famous for its location and spiritual nature, Sidi Chamharouch attracts many Moroccans seeking a cure from the evil eye and asking for fertility. There is also a refreshment stop for hikers on the way to Toubkal base camp. After a picnic lunch, you trace your way back down to Imlil. An approximately 5 hour walk/6 miles. In the afternoon, visit a local women’s cooperative. (B/L/D)
Overnight at Kasbah Du Toubkal

Day 6

After breakfast, trek up to the pass of Tizi Mzik 2489m, which holds some of the oldest juniper trees in the Toubkal National Park. Follow a zigzag mule path to the village of Tizi Oussem in the upper Azaden valley. You will notice the green cultivated terraces dominating the mud-built houses showing the great work of the Berbers. After a picnic lunch in the shade of the walnut trees, you will meet the vehicle and transfer to Ouirgane at the bottom of the valley. An approximate 4.5 hour walk/5.5 miles. (B/L/D)
Overnight at the La Bergerie

Day 7

After a leisure morning and yoga class, you will drive to Agafay, the so-called desert of Marrakech, a mineral desert that stretches for 20 km at the foot of the Atlas Mountains with climatic conditions close to the Sahara. There are no sand dunes but a stony relief with soft breathtaking landscapes and snowy peaks in the background scenery. On the way, you can hike along the olive groves of Ait Zitoune to Tachbibte on the edge of Lala Takerkouste Lake. Arrive to Agafay mid-afternoon followed by an ATV excursion. Optional star gazing activity in the evening. Approximately 1.5 hour drive and 2 hour walk. Our accommodations consist of 18 luxury tents giving a splendid overview of the desert, each with inside king size bed, living room and separate bathroom. (B/L/D)
Overnight at the deluxe Inara Camp

Day 8

Breakfast at the camp before heading to Essaouira where you will see the first Argan trees, a jewel of this region with its precious oil. Detour to Sidi Kaouki for a camel ride along the Atlantic coast. Visit a women’s cooperative for Argan oil before heading to Essaouira. An approximate 2 hour drive / 1 to 2 hour walk. (B/L/-)
Overnight at the Riad Mimouna

Day 9

This morning you will have a guided tour of Essaouira which is known as an old pirate’s hideout offering a multitude of small squares encircled by Portuguese, Berber and French battlements. The pace of life is more relaxed here, and the whitewashed houses and narrow streets lend a truly Mediterranean air to the city. The afternoon is left for your own exploration with optional activities such as horseback riding, surfing or a cooking class. A yoga class will be offered prior to an evening dinner in local restaurant:  (B/-/D)
