Where Monastery Meets Adventure

Overview of France

Nestled between dramatic limestone cliffs in the heart of Provence, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is widely regarded as one of France’s most beautiful villages. Known for its charming stone houses, flower-filled lanes, and breathtaking mountain setting, the village is a peaceful retreat where history, art, and nature come together. A golden star, suspended high between the cliffs, has watched over the village for centuries and has become its iconic symbol.

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is famous for its world-renowned faience pottery, a tradition dating back to the 17th century. Visitors can wander through artisan workshops and boutiques, watching local craftspeople create hand-painted ceramics that are treasured throughout France. The village is also filled with quaint cafés, fountains, lavender-scented shops, and inviting squares perfect for enjoying a leisurely afternoon.

One of the village’s highlights is the climb to the Notre-Dame de Beauvoir chapel. The stone staircase leads to spectacular panoramic views over the village, surrounding valleys, and distant mountains, making it one of the most rewarding short hikes in Provence.

Nature lovers will find endless opportunities for adventure. Moustiers-Sainte-Marie sits at the gateway to the Verdon Gorge, often called the “Grand Canyon of Europe.” The area offers exceptional hiking, kayaking, swimming, and scenic drives.

Presence over Pace

Begin our first full day with Lavender Slow Flow Yoga, a grounding practice designed to help us arrive—not only in Provence, but fully in the present moment. After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of Monastère de Ségriès and discover the rich history and timeless beauty of this peaceful retreat. Spend the remainder of the morning slowing down and simply being - relax by the pool, read in the garden, journal, or catch up on much-needed rest. Afternoon Excursion - walk approximately four miles to Moustiers-Sainte-Marie for the Sunday Artisan & Flavors Market, featuring local producers, crafts, ceramics, honey, regional foods, and handmade goods; and/or visit Notre-Dame de Beauvoir Chapel, reached by 262 historic stone steps (good walking shoes are recommended). A shuttle or taxi can be arranged for those who prefer not to walk. Prior to dinner a gentle hatha practice will be offered that encourages moving with intention rather than urgency, emphasizing mindful transitions and longer holds. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D)

Flow with the Journey

Begin the day with an energizing yet slow flow yoga practice designed to awaken the body, connect movement with breath, and prepare us for the adventure ahead. Today’s intention is to let go of expectations, remain open to what unfolds, and simply flow with the journey. Breakfast following yoga. 10:00 AM–3:00 PM | Aiguines Village & Kayaking the Gorges du Verdon Aiguines is perched above Lac de Sainte-Croix and is considered a gateway to the Gorges du Verdon. It has pretty Provençal streets, a distinctive château, and a beautiful panoramic view over the turquoise lake. The Saint-Pierre chapel viewpoint is particularly worthwhile. From the village, we’ll make our way to the brilliant turquoise waters of the Gorges du Verdon for a guided kayaking adventure with a state-certified guide. Paddle beneath towering limestone cliffs rising roughly 2,300 feet above the water while taking in one of Provence’s most spectacular natural landscapes. Much like the water beneath our kayaks, today reminds us that we don’t always need to know exactly where the journey will take us—we can breathe, adapt, and flow with it. After our day on the water, unwind with a gentle restorative practice focused on releasing the shoulders, back, hips, and legs. We’ll slow the breath, soften the body, and reflect on the experiences of the day. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D) Trust the current. Embrace the unexpected. Flow with the journey.

Walking in Awareness

Begin the day with a grounding yoga practice designed to awaken the senses, connect with the breath, and gently prepare the body for the journey ahead. Today, we carry our yoga practice off the mat—slowing our pace, noticing the beauty around us, and allowing nature to become part of our meditation. 10:00 AM–3:00 PM | Guided Hike — The Vulture Colony After breakfast, we’ll set out for a spectacular guided hike in the Gorges du Verdon. Beginning at the Samson Corridor in the heart of the Grand Canyon, a peaceful, shaded trail climbs toward the Rancoumas viewpoint, one of the area’s few scenic overlooks untouched by a roadway. Along the way, our guide will introduce us to the unique flora and fauna of the Verdon as we practice simply walking, breathing, and noticing. At the top, we’ll pause to take in the magnificent views and watch griffon vultures soar effortlessly on the mountain thermals, their wingspans reaching more than 8 feet. The approximate 4-mile round-trip hike includes meaningful elevation gain and is best suited for fit, active walkers. For nature lovers, it promises to be one of the most memorable experiences of the week. After our hike, we’ll slow things down with a gentle wall yoga practice focused on stretching tired legs, releasing the hips and lower back, and reflecting on the beauty we encountered throughout the day. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D) Walk slowly. Breathe deeply. Notice what you might otherwise pass by.

A New Perspective

Begin the morning with an uplifting yoga practice focused on balance, openness, and creating space in both body and mind. As we move and breathe, we’ll set an intention to approach the day with curiosity; remembering that sometimes a change in perspective is all we need to see things differently. Breakfast following yoga. 10:00 AM–3:00 PM | E-Bike Ride — The Route des Crêtes Today we experience the breathtaking Route des Crêtes, cycling past spectacular views overlooking the Grand Canyon of the Verdon. With the ease of an electric-assist bike, we can relax into the ride, enjoy the journey, and take in sweeping panoramas from some of the most extraordinary viewpoints in Provence. As we climb higher and our view expands, today invites us to consider what happens when we look at life from a different vantage point. After our ride, we’ll settle into a gentle practice designed to release the hips, legs, shoulders, and back. Through heart-opening poses, restorative stretches, and quiet reflection, we’ll create space to absorb the experiences of the day. Dinner at 6:00 p.m. (B, L, D) Sometimes the path doesn’t need to change—we simply need a new perspective.

Savoring the Moment

Begin the morning with a gentle, mindful yoga practice focused on slowing down, awakening the senses, and appreciating the simple moments that often pass us by. Today is an invitation to linger a little longer, notice a little more, and truly savor the experience of Provence. Breakfast following yoga. Late Morning | Provençal Market — Gréoux-les-Bains Today we slow the pace and immerse ourselves in the sights, scents, and flavors of Provence. Wander through the lively Gréoux-les-Bains Provençal Market, where approximately 130 stalls showcase local produce, cheeses, olives, honey, herbs, artisan goods, and seasonal specialties. Enjoy time to browse at your own pace, chat with local vendors, sample regional flavors, and simply soak in the atmosphere of this charming historic thermal village. Beyond the market, take time to explore Gréoux-les-Bains, perhaps wandering toward the ruins of its hilltop castle or discovering the town’s centuries-old thermal heritage. We’ll pause for a relaxed terrace lunch at a local café, allowing everyone to choose and purchase their own meal. Return to the Monastère for an afternoon to enjoy however you wish—relax by the pool, read, journal, take a walk, or simply do nothing. 6:00 p.m. Farewell dinner After dinner - Candlelight Yoga Nidra in the Chapel - Practice a gentle yoga nidra class illuminated only by candles and soft instrumental music. (B, D) Savor the flavors. Notice the details. Linger in the moments you don’t want to forget.
