Jordan Hiking Trip
April 9-20, 2027

Overview of Jordan
Step into the timeless landscapes of Jordan on a journey that blends adventure, history, and natural beauty. We hike five days from Dana to Petra (rated as one of the world’s 15 best hikes by National Geographic), traversing rocky canyons, terraced hillsides, and desert plateaus alive with wildflowers in April’s pleasant spring weather. Along the way, we pass Bedouin camps, ancient rock-cut tombs, and Nabatean water channels, stepping into the world of a civilization perfectly adapted to this dramatic terrain. Arriving at Petra, we enter through the narrow Siq and are rewarded with the breathtaking view of the Treasury, exploring the rose-red city’s rock-carved facades, tombs, and dwellings while connecting with the enduring Bedouin culture that thrives here.

Our journey continues with an open-air jeep adventure through Wadi Rum, climbing dunes, crossing rock bridges, and exploring narrow gorges, followed by yoga sessions beneath the desert’s crimson skies and a night under the stars. We conclude with a day of relaxation at the Dead Sea, floating in its mineral-rich waters, enjoying therapeutic mud, and strolling along the shoreline, before transferring to the airport or extending our exploration of Jordan. From the high desert to the rose-red cliffs of Petra, the vast expanses of Wadi Rum, and the shimmering Dead Sea, this journey captures the essence of Jordan in spring, with comfortable temperatures, blooming wildflowers, and the occasional refreshing rain bringing life to its landscapes.
Note: This itinerary involves walking over varied terrain and is not suitable for beginner hikers. For participants who may be unable to complete a hiking day, transfers can be arranged in advance by jeep. In the unlikely event of an emergency, evacuation by donkey is also available to ensure safety and continuity of the journey. Please contact the trip leader with any questions regarding suitability.

Day 1-April 9
Fly to Amman (AMM)
It is recommended to make your flight arrangements early from your hometown.

Day 2-April 10
Arrive in Amman (D)
Welcome to Jordan! Most flights from the USA arrive in the afternoon. Upon landing at Queen Alia International Airport, our driver will meet us in the arrivals hall and to transfer to Intercontinental Hotel in Amman—a drive of approximately 1 hour, depending on traffic. In the evening, we’ll meet for a welcome dinner and briefing to prepare for the adventures ahead. Overnight: Jordan Intercontinental Hotel***** rises in the heart of Amman, just steps from the lively Abdoun and Rainbow Street districts. A landmark property with refined interiors and sweeping city views, it blends international luxury with warm Middle Eastern hospitality. Guests can unwind in spacious rooms, indulge in diverse dining options from fine cuisine to casual cafés, or relax by the palm-lined outdoor pool. With its spa, fitness center, and attentive service, the hotel is both a welcoming retreat and an ideal base for exploring Jordan’s capital.

Day 3-April 11
Yoga; Cooking Class; Amman City Tour (B/L/D)
We begin the day with a yoga session from a local English speaking instructor, then enjoy breakfast before setting out to explore Amman. Our first stop is the Citadel, perched high above the city with sweeping views across the Roman amphitheater and old downtown. From this historic vantage point, we descend to the amphitheater itself, a magnificently restored relic of Roman Philadelphia, before continuing into the heart of the city. As we wander through lively streets and markets, we pause at the Husseini Mosque, one of Amman’s oldest and most significant landmarks. By midday, we make our way to Beit Sitti for a hands-on culinary experience. Guided by a Hajjeh, we learn to prepare a traditional Arabic meal and then sit down together to enjoy the dishes we’ve created in the warm, welcoming atmosphere of her family home. Later, we return to the hotel with time to relax before gathering again for a group dinner. Overnight: Jordan Intercontinental Hotel*****

Day 4-April 12
Hike Dana – Mansoura (9 miles/15 km); (B/L/D)
After an early breakfast we drive from Amman to the starting point of our trek at 7am (~2.5 hours). Our trekking adventure begins in the Dana Biosphere Reserve, a protected area that encompasses four distinct ecozones and shelters an extraordinary variety of plants, birds, and wildlife. We first follow a trail along the mountains overlooking the Dana Valley before descending into the wild beauty of Al-Khashasha Valley. Here, on the valley’s edge, a campsite awaits us. We eat packed lunch along the hike and have dinner together at the campsite, watching the sun go down. Overnight: Camping at Mansoura The campsite will be prepared by a local company ahead of our arrival including tents with twin mattresses, sheets and blankets. Shower and latrine tents will be available. Local guides will prepare a hot dinner to enjoy in camp chairs around the campfire. Your luggage will be transported to the campsite by jeep while we hike so that it will be waiting for you upon arrival. Breakfast time during the camping days will be around 7am and dinner time will be around sunset at 7pm. You will be able to prepare your own packed lunch according to your preference from an array of foods laid out after breakfast.

Day 5-April 13
Hike Mansoura – Al Furon (9 miles/15 km); (B/L/D)
Today‘s hike is challenging but extremely rewarding. We will gradually ascend for approximately an hour before getting a glimpse of the beautiful Sharah Mountains and the wide Wadi Araba Desert. The outstanding view will accompany us all the way to our campsite in Al Furon. We’ll stop along the way for a picnic lunch. Enjoy a cup of tea and the great view from the campsite while relaxing until a well-earned dinner. Overnight: Camping at Al Furon

Day 6-April 14
Hike Al Furon – Ghbour Whedat (10.5 miles/17km); (B/L/D)
Today we set out from Furon, hiking past Ras Al-Feid and onward to Ghbour Whedat. Along the way, we witness some of the most remote and untamed landscapes in Jordan. We follow Bedouin shepherd paths as we trace the contours of the Sharah Mountains,. Towering black peaks rise dramatically above us, while deep canyon drops open below—making this stretch of the journey truly spectacular. As we gradually climb higher, ever-expanding views over the desert unfold before us. By late afternoon, we reach our campsite in Ghbour Whedat where we have time to relax surrounded by natural beauty. Overnight: Camping at Ghbour Whedat

Day 7-April 15
Hike Ghbour Whedat – Little Petra (9 miles/14 km); (B/L/D)
After yesterday’s remote hike, today we begin to notice signs of increasing human presence as we approach Little Petra. Along the way, we pass Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots, glimpses of daily life that contrast with the solitude of the desert. We encounter Nabatean ruins such as wine and olive presses, aqueducts, and other remnants of ancient water management systems. These traces of ingenuity hint at a civilization attuned to the harsh landscape. Our destination, Little Petra, is believed by archaeologists to have functioned as a “suburb” of Petra, providing shelter for traders traveling along the Silk Road connecting Africa, Asia, Europe, and Arabia. As we explore its sandstone canyon, we will see rock-carved facades, homes, and other ancient structures, each telling a story of life along this historic trade route. Overnight: Little Petra Bedouin Camp At Little Petra Bedouin Camp, we sleep in spacious, traditional-style tents equipped with comfortable twin mattresses, soft sheets, and warm blankets. Each luxury tent offers lighting and seating, while shared facilities include latrines and showers. The camp also provides a communal area with camp chairs for relaxing, and evening meals are prepared by local Bedouin hosts, giving a full taste of desert hospitality.

Day 8-April 16
Hike Little Petra - Petra (8 miles/13 km); (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we begin our hike, entering Petra through the “Back Door” to avoid the crowds. Well-marked paths lead us gently down Wadi Ghurab, flanked by sandstone mountains that guard the approaches to the ancient city. This route follows an old Nabataean trail out of the valley, winding around the final mountain along a natural rock terrace that has been carefully reinforced for the safety of walkers. The path narrows slightly as it approaches a hidden plateau, perched high above the dramatic chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Suddenly, carved into the cliff face, the Monastery emerges into view. Here, a small Bedouin café offers refreshments for those who wish to pause and take in the scenery. Nabataean steps then lead downward into the heart of Petra, guiding us through its ancient streets before exiting past the Treasury and through the famous Petra Siq, arriving finally at the bustling shops, cafés, and hotels of Wadi Musa. Overnight: Petra Moon Luxury Hotel***** Petra Moon Luxury Hotel offers an elegant and comfortable stay in Wadi Musa, blending modern luxury with traditional Jordanian touches. Guest rooms are spacious and well-appointed, featuring plush bedding, air conditioning, and private bathrooms. The hotel’s amenities include a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of Petra, an on-site restaurant serving local and international cuisine, a lounge area, free Wi-Fi, and attentive service to ensure a relaxing and memorable stay.

Day 9-April 17
Petra-Wadi Rum; Jeep Tour; Sunset Yoga (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we drive from our hotel in Petra south to Wadi Rum—a journey of approximately two hours. Upon arrival, we embark on half day (~4 hour) jeep tour, exploring Wadi Rum’s valleys, canyons, dunes, and desert landscapes. Along the way, we discover ancient rock inscriptions, dramatic mountain vistas, and narrow gorges that reveal the desert’s striking beauty. We return by jeep by sunset when we can enjoy a refreshing yoga session amidst one of the world’s most breathtaking desert settings. We end the day with a delicious dinner and spend the night under the desert sky. Overnight: Petra Rum Planet Camp**** provides an authentic and comfortable desert experience in the heart of Wadi Rum. Set against dramatic sandstone cliffs and vast open skies, the camp offers well-appointed Bedouin-style tents with modern amenities, blending traditional hospitality with convenience. Guests can enjoy hearty local meals, gather around the fire under a canopy of stars, and wake to sweeping desert views, making it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding valleys, canyons, and ancient rock formations.

Day 10-April 18
Sunrise Yoga and Meditation; Jeep Tour (B/L/D)
We start the day with a yoga session to awaken the body and quiet the mind, leaving us feeling balanced, peaceful, and inspired as the sun invites us into the day. After breakfast, we embark on a two-hour open-air jeep adventure through Wadi Rum, following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia. We climb sand dunes, cross natural rock bridges, and stop along the way to explore special sites in the area. Afterwards, we transfer to the Dead Sea to rest and relax at our hotel, soaking in the unique landscape and experience. Overnight: Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa***** offers a luxurious retreat on the shores of the world’s lowest point, blending modern comfort with stunning natural surroundings. Guest rooms and suites feature private balconies or terraces with views of the Dead Sea or surrounding mountains, along with plush bedding and contemporary amenities.
